It is the talk on social media. Dentistry is going to have to change. Different methods are going to have to be implemented. Some dental professionals are suggesting dentists start using ozone gas in their practices to reduce aerosols. Some dental hygienists are all in, some even using it already in biological dentistry. There are others that fear the changes, saying the changes are too much for them and now is the time to leave dentistry.
Which leads many dental hygienists worrying about what will do next. Some have said they will take this opportunity to retire but many are still in their working years and are desperately searching for their next career.
Let’s all take a breath. We can do this. Change is good. There are a plethora of career coaching tools you can use to help you find your superpowers.
Some of the tools that I have personally used successfully to find my strengths include books like Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath. This book reveals your natural strengths along with 50 ideas for action. Also a good read is the Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable, written by Seth Godin.
Penelope Trunk says that doing what you love is bad career advice. “Just do something that caters to your strengths”. She references the book, Do What You Are: Discover the Perfect Career for You Through the Secrets of Personality Type, by Paul Tieger and Barbara Barron- Teiger.
There are free online tests you can take to help you discover your personality type, like the Myers Briggs Personality Test or Tony Robbins DISC Assessment Test, you can take a free assessment test or pay a small amount for a more detailed description of your personality.
There are a multitude of resources out there to help guide you in moving your career to suit your strengths and natural talents. You just have to be open to change.
