During the holiday season things can get …stressful. It seems there is so much to do and so little time. We get caught up in a flurry and as a result we tend to overeat or not eat, sleep patterns change, exercise is out of the question because who has time for that?

Let’s take a beat and recharge and breathe. This 3 minute activity will help center and relax you. Recharge yourself so that you can be the best you can be for your family, friends and patients. You are worth it!

Deep Breathing Activity

Materials needed: None

Activity Script:

  1. Close your eyes and imagine your favorite scenery.
  2. Place your hands at your belly button.
  3. Inhale deeply through your nose to a count of four. Make sure you’re inhaling from the gut—you should feel your abdomen pressing outward against your hand and your rib cage expand.
  4. Once your ribcage is fully expanded, hold your breath for a count of two. Imagine relaxing thoughts while you pause.
  5. As you slowly exhale through your mouth for a count of six, imagine toxins leaving your body.
  6. Close your eyes.
  7. Inhale through nose – 2 – 3 – 4
  8. Hold – 1 – 2
  9. Exhale through mouth – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6
  10. Repeat
  11. Inhale through nose – 2 – 3 – 4
  12. Hold – 1 – 2
  13. Exhale through mouth – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6
